The guest speaker at this year’s MCBMUN will be none other than the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Naomi Long. Councillor Long was elected Lord Mayor in June of this year, and is the second woman ever to hold the post in Belfast. Having gained a Civil Engineering Degree from QUB, she practised as an engineer for 10 years before being elected onto the Northern Irish assembly, though she had been a member of the Alliance Party for several years beforehand. As well as being Lord Mayor, Councillor Long is currently a deputy leader of the Alliance Party and an MLA. The theme for her mayoral year is ‘Belfast without Barriers’ so she is sure to have invaluable advice for us on creating harmonious world relations.
