Deledda International School left for Belfast some days ago, so that we asked them about their impressions and expectation for this new challange in the Model UN area. Unfortunately there was not a chance to interview with them all, but at least we've got three different opinions!
1. It is the first time that your school joins the MCB conference, how do you feel about it? Why did you accept to take part into this conference?
Giulia B.
I am very happy to take part in this conference not only because it gives you the opportunity to travel and be a delegate abroad but also because it connects you to the world. I also decided to go since we met some MC delegates in Milan during the conference held at Bocconi University and have been invited to take part in their conference. I am really fond of MUNs and I consider them as very important to me.
Laura T.
I decided to take part into this conference because in Milan I met some delegates from the Methodist College and since they were really prepared I became curios about their MUN and I was interested in visiting the city of Befast.
Leandro P.
Well, I feel very excited- I decided to take part to this MUN because I wanted to be truly aware of the issues that afflict humanity and somehow find a solution in a spirit of cooperation with every other delegate.
2. Do you think that the topics of your committee will satisfy the main issues of your country about the subject area?
Giulia
The topics of the Security Council this year are really connected to Japan. They are maritime piracy and the reform of the SC. Japan is affected by maritime piracy and strives to get a permanent seat in the SC. Therefore I really think that this conference will be very useful.
Laura
Well, My committee is a bit different from the others, since we’re all trying to purpose a different solution to a problem of the past, so we have to decide if there was a better way to solve this problem.
Leandro
Not really, since Japan doesn’t really face every issue of my conference directly (ecological & society), but anyway I am strongly determined to help the other countries which are afflicted by every single issue.
3. How do you like MUNs? How do you see them, educationally speaking?
Giulia
I am particularly fond of MUNs because they let young people get aware of world issues.
Laura
I see MUNs a way to become aware of the problems of our times and I think it’s also a good mean to improve our speaking skill, since we’re not native speakers.
Leandro
Well, MUNs are an excellent way to improve you English, as well as the ability to fight for your ideals. After every mun I’ve been to, I found myself each time more and more confident, it’s something that leads you to maturity and opens your eyes.
4. Would you like to be a politician one day? Why?
Giulia
Yes, I would really like to be a politician or even better a real UN delegate someday. I really get addicted to what I do and would love it to be a job after university
Laura
I’ d like to be an ambassador simply because I’m interested in every kind of culture and in the different approaches to problems. I’d also like to mediate among different points of view.
Leandro
Definitely not, because I think that should mean too much work and I don’t feel really ready for it. But still as I said before, these conferences give you a particular confidence and knowledge that could help you in every job appliance.
5. What concerns you the most about world’s politic at the moment?
Giulia
I think that the most important global issue is now terrorism. It’s destroying many countries’ economies and it’s creating a feeling of insecurity that must be overcome.
Laura
The immediate risk of nowadays world concerns utilization of the atomic weapons since other problems can be solved more calmly whereas the nuclear weapons, if given in wrong hands, could cause the end of what we have been building for centuries.
Leandro
The environmental situation, because if anything won’t change soon enough, the effects on the planet would be disastrous and irreversible.
