Methody’s first Historical Committee got off to a great start with debates on the 9/11 attacks, the Korean War and the Suez Canal Crisis. These were heady issues and were discussed in depth.
On Thursday, USA and the UK were sharing a lot of love and continuously supported each other, was this contagious? I think it was, as the USA’s resolution was passed. Palestine was not feeling the love, however as he was not officially recognised by the committee and took it somewhat personally. As most delegates were a bit tired from their travels, debating was relatively subdued on Thursday. This was to strongly contrast with the next day.
A delegate showing the love was North Korea, who seemed to be flirting with all of the Admin team and a certain Chair person who I will only name as Victoria. Other events on Friday included a stage dive from our lovely Chair Victoria Ward, was this intentional – I think not. As the day progressed we all saw an increase in activity with the failing of the Chinese resolution and more importantly a Dance off between Burkina Faso and Israel who was the clear victor. Awards given at the end of Friday were “Next President” which was given to the UK delegate, “Best Couple” was taken by the UK and the USA (no surprise there), “Serial Killer” was awarded to the USA who was also displaying excellent footwear. Iran, the most confrontational delegate was clearly given the “Most Likely to Start WW3”, Palestine took two awards with “Dumbest Blonde” and “Hottest Delegate”. Finally the most important award “Biggest Flirt” was given to North Korea, the clear winner.
All in all, it was a successful conference for the MCBMUN’s first ever historic committee. Let’s all hope that we will see it again next year.
